MUSEO GEOPALEONTOLOGICO DI CAMPOSILVANO

The museum has an exhaustive collection of fossil organisms and rocks from Lessinia, which are ascribed to a period of time ranging from 225 to 1,800 million years ago. The numerous findings are exhibited in showcases and accompanied by captions and deions, which illustrate the environment of this region in the various geological ages. Findings from other regions complete the exhibit itinerary, along with the fossil remains of the Cave Bear, a gigantic animal that inhabited these mountains, which became extinct approximately 12,000 years ago.

The visit to the museum may be completed by an excursion to Covolo di Camposilvano, where there is a grandiose karstic cavity situated about 100 m. away, which can be reached easily from a path. The grotto is a suggestive example of karstic activity and has an ellipsoidal chasm that is more than 70 m. deep, which is frequently the site of curious meteorological phenomena due to thermal inversion. 

Opening time: from 15 May to 15 September from 9.30 to 12.30 and from 15.30 to 18.30; from 16 September to 14 May: Saturday and Sunday from 10.30 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 16.00. Other days by appointment.

Il museo ospita un’esauriente collezione di organismi fossili e rocce della Lessinia ascrivibili a un arco di tempo che va dai 225 ai 1.800 milioni di anni fa. I numerosi reperti, sistemati in bacheche e accompagnati da didascalie e descrizioni, illustrano l'evoluzione ambientale di questa regione nelle diverse ere geologiche. Reperti provenienti da altri regioni completano il percorso espositivo insieme ai resti fossili dell’Orso delle caverne, un animale gigantesco che abitava queste montagne ed estintosi circa 12.000 anni fa.

La visita al museo può essere completata da un’escursione al Covolo di Camposilvano, grandiosa cavità carsica situata a circa 100 metri di distanza, facilmente raggiungibile tramite un sentiero. La grotta rappresenta un suggestivo esempio di carsismo e si presenta come una voragine ellissoidale profonda più di 70 metri, interessata tra l’altro da curiosi fenomeni meteorologici dovuti ad inversione termica.

Il museo è aperto: dal 15 maggio al 15 settembre dalle 9,30 alle 12,30 e dalle 15,30 alle 18,30; dal 16 settembre al 14 maggio, sabato e domenica dalle 10,30 alle 12,00 e dalle 14,00 alle 16,00. Altri giorni su prenotazione
