MUSEO DELL'OCCHIALE

The Museo dell’Occhiale picks up over 4,000 pieces that speak about the history of eyeglasses, from the origins to our days. In many cases it deals with exceptional pieces, unique in their kind, precious documents not only of the history of the technique and of the costume but also of the art. Besides glasses of every kind, the museum keeps pince-nez, lorgnettes, spectacle cases, fans with glasses or hidden lorgnettes, binoculars, spyglasses, batons for walking, with glasses, slow or spyglasses inserted in the handle, monocles, slow of enlargement, spectacle cases and many other curious objects that recall the eyeglasses.

The museum has two floors: the first floor exhibition talks about the history, the typology, the social use of eyeglasses and other tools based on the employment of the lenses, as well as the historical evolution of spectacle cases. The second floor of the museum is dedicated to the history of eyeglasses in Cadore and in Belluno region from the end of the 19th century to our days. To complete the museum there is a small library that picks up books up to 17th century, besides many recent pubblications on the history and on the evolution of eyeglasses and many graduation thesis about eyeglasses.

Il Museo dell’Occhiale raccoglie oltre 4.000 reperti che documentano la storia dell’occhiale, dai primordi ai giorni nostri. In molti casi si tratta di pezzi eccezionali, unici nel loro genere, preziosi documenti non solo della storia della tecnica e del costume ma anche dell’arte. Oltre agli occhiali di ogni genere, all’interno del Museo sono conservati pince-nez, fassamani, astucci, ventagli con occhiali o lorgnette celati al loro interno, binocoli, cannocchiali, bastoni da passeggio con occhiali, lenti o cannocchiali inseriti nel manico, monocoli, lenti di ingrandimento, astucci e tanti altri oggetti curiosi che richiamano l’occhiale.

Il museo è strutturato su due piani: il primo piano ha percorsi finalizzati a ricostruire la storia, la tipologia, l’uso sociale degli occhiali e degli altri strumenti basati sull’impiego delle lenti, nonché l’evoluzione storica degli astucci. Il secondo piano del Museo è dedicato alla rappresentazione della storia dell’occhialeria cadorina e bellunese dalla fine del XIX secolo ai giorni nostri. A completamento del Museo vi è una piccola biblioteca che raccoglie trattati sugli occhiali risalenti anche al Seicento, oltre a numerose pubblicazioni recenti sulla storia e sull’evoluzione dell’occhiale e numerose tesi di laurea in materia. 

Da luglio ad agosto il museo è aperto anche di lunedì.
