The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is the most important museum in Italy for European and American art of the 20th century created by the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979). She assembled the core of her collection in London, Paris and New York between 1938 and 1947 with the advice of artists and critics. It is located in Peggy Guggenheim's former home, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal in Venice.
The museum was inaugurated in 1980 and presents Peggy Guggenheim's personal collection of 20th century art, including masterpieces by Picasso, Magritte, Dalí, Chagall, Pollock, Calder, de Chirico, Braque, Kandinsky and many others. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection hosts also masterpieces from the Hannelore B. e Rudolph B. Schulhof Collection, the Nasher Sculpture Garden, as well as temporary exhibitions.
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is owned and operated by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York, which also operates the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and which is a partner of the Basque Regional Government for the programming of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
La Collezione Peggy Guggenheim è il museo più importante in Italia per l'arte europea e americana del XX secolo creato dall’ereditiera americana Peggy Guggenheim (1898–1979), che acquisì la maggior parte delle sue opere tra il 1938 e il 1947, in Europa e a New York, grazie ai consigli di amici, artisti e critici d’arte.
La Collezione Peggy Guggenheim, che annovera capolavori del Cubismo, Futurismo, astrazione europea, Surrealismo ed Espressionismo astratto americano, con opere, tra gli altri, di Picasso, Pollock, Kandinsky, Miró, de Chirico, Dalí, ha sede a Venezia, a Palazzo Venier dei Leoni sul Canal Grande, in quella che fu l'abitazione della mecenate americana.
Inaugurato nel 1980, oltre a presentare la collezione personale di Peggy Guggenheim, il museo ospita i capolavori della Collezione Hannelore B. e Rudolph B. Schulhof, il Giardino delle sculture Nasher e organizza importanti mostre temporanee. La Collezione Peggy Guggenheim è proprietà della Fondazione Solomon R. Guggenheim che gestisce anche il Museo Solomon R. Guggenheim di New York, ed è partner dei Paesi Baschi nella programmazione del Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
